Computerized Voice

The elevators in the building I’m in here on campus have a computerized voice announcing the elevator’s direction of movement.  I wonder why the manufacturer didn’t just record a human’s voice and put that in the system instead.  There are only two phrases: “Going up” and “Going down.”  A human voice might have given a more personal touch.
